Description

The Buhari Administration is undertaking several major power projects and have achieved the following:

  • From 4,000MW to 7,000MW of additional power generation capacity
  • Pilot Power projects to five economic clusters/markets being implemented
  • 701billion Naira Payment Assurance Programme to resolve the challenges in the Power Section
  • Transmission Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme to improve Grid Capacity.
  • Distribution Expansion Programme (DEP) to increase distribution capacity in DisCos.
  • ‘Beyond the Grid’ Programme: deployed ‘solar home systems to power 20,000 rural households.
  • Independent Power Projects (IPP): The Buhari administration’s Energizing Economies Initiative, which is being implement by Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is designed to provide off-grid clean, affordable, and constant electricity to economic clusters such as big markets and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria
  • So far, thousand of shops in Sabon Gari in Kano State, Ariaria Market in Aba, Abia State; Isinkan market in Akure, Ondo State, Edaiken Market in Benin, Edo State, and Sura Market, Lagos have been provided solar power through the initiative.
  • Within the next few months, the REA plans to provide 80,000 shops with energy, which will translate to 2,500 jobs, 350,000 SMEs.
